This year the annual club closed tournament was run throughout the week of 16th September with finals taking place at the week-end,

It is open to adult members of all categories and different combinations of play are catered for i.e. men's & ladies singles and doubles and mixed doubles. Enter with a partner or just put your name down and the organisers will allocate you one. It is free and the forms are posted on the Club notice board some weeks prior to the event so please don't be shy and sign up at the appropriate time.

Everyone is guaranteed 2 matches as first round losers are automatically entered into the Plate competition

During the Annual Tournament week there will be some disruption to court availability for members but the court allocation will be posted on the board, in the log book on the reception desk and on the web. Unless rain prevents use of the outdoor courts most matches will be played outside leaving the Club full use of the indoor courts. Please bear with the organisers and join in the tournament if only as a spectator.

Huntingdon Tennis Club have won this tournament for the past 3 years. It is open to Clubs affiliated to the Huntingdon & Peterborough area. The Don Brace Cup, a knockout competition, has run for well over 20 years. The competition was devised by Don, a farmer from St. Neots who was one of the leading players in the area in his era, who provided the trophy. A team of 2 men and 2 ladies play a combination of a Mens, Ladies and 2 Mixed doubles.

Our Club's success this year is still very current as the final only took place on Sunday 4th October. Following an 8-0 win over Buckden in the semi-finals the team of Chris Little, Ed Gee, Naomi Jackson and Sophia Rolt followed up with a hard fought contest coming out 6-2 winners over last year's runners up Thorpewood.

In the Mixed doubles Ed and Naomi beat Ashley Martin and Jane Leften 6-4, 7-5 with Chris and Sophia drawing 3-6, 7-6 with Steve Myers and Janet Martin. Good job Sophia helped you out Chris!  Still you did admit that you were the old man of this team.

Chris and Ed trounced Steve and Ashley 6-0, 6-0 (no polite way to put that). Chris made the shot of the match by racing back for a lob over Ed's head which culminatinated in the most exquisite and forceful forehand as he swivelled and cracked the ball passed opponents who thought the point was in the bag. I am sure Chris can tell this better!

In the ladies doubles Naomi and Sophia came back from a 3-6 first set where the experience of Janet allowed her to take control of the net and make many devastating winning shots. However the youngsters ( they are only 13 and 14) fought back solidly to take the second set 7-5.

We are very proud of the team, Congratulations to the winning team and other members of the squad who played in previous rounds, namely Emma Chisholm, Chris Gregory and Julian Payne. Thanks also to Julian for organising our teams.

Huntingdon Tennis Club win the Don Brace Cup in 2008 for the second year running

Huntingdon proved worthy winners of the cup beating Thorpe Wood, Peterborough 6-2 in the final. The young team consisted of Ben Wood, Chris Little, Emily Crack and Emma Chisholm, all of whom started playing at Huntingdon at mini level and have grown up with the club.

Thorpe Wood were a strong opposition and the score did not reflect the high standard of play shown by both teams.

In the plate competition Buckden and Deeping drew 4 sets all with Buckden winning on count back of games won.
